Apple iPhone coming on June 29th

Apple aired three television commercials on Sunday night which ended all speculations regarding the release date of iPhone. These commercials show off what iPhone can do and ends with "Only on the new AT&T" and "Coming June 29". Just in case, you haven’t seen the ad on TV, they are now available on Apple’s website.

iPhone is a quad-band GSM/EDGE device which features three gadgets into one: mobile phone, internet device and iPod with touch screen. iPhone which runs on a mobile edition of Mac OSX and includes WiFi along with Bluetooth and 2 megapixel camera.

Apple has already revealed their intension to open up for third party application development, which makes the phone even more flexible with extended functionalities of third party apps. The 4GB edition of iPhone sells for $499 and the 8GB edition goes for $599 with a 2 year contract.

Market research firm, iSuppli had estimated that Apple has a gross profit margin of nearly 50 percent. Apple makes about 253 for every 4GB iPhone and $318 for 8GB model, if the calculations by iSuppli were accurate. These calculations make me feel that the prices should fall after the initial release. Moreover, there isn’t a large market for such a pricy phone, so eventually the prices should drop.
